Accidents
happen, which means spills/stains will appear on your carpet. Here
are some quick DIY tips on getting out those naughty stains.
1. Dab Do
Not Rub
A colored
drink has spilled all over your beige carpet. The first thing to do
is a grab either a cloth, towel or sponge with cleaning solution.
Dab (pat) down the spot where the spill is located until the color
of the drink is lifted off the carpet. Do not rub in the stain as it
will get into the carpet fibers and cause premature break down on
the carpet fiber.
2.
Candyland
Having young
ones in the home you are prone to kid messes. Hard candies can get
stuck on the carpet and sometimes leave residue. You can try
scraping it up with a butter knife or a spotter brush. After
scraping it up grab a sponge mixed with water and mild soap to clean
the spot. Once the area is cleared try drying it up by dabbing
(patting) down the spot with a cloth or paper towels.
3. Ouchy
Cutting your
finger can result to having a few drops of blood on your carpet.
Yes, using hydrogen peroxide can help clean up your ouchy but it can
also be used on your carpet! If the blood has dried on your carpet,
loosen up the dried blood with water mixed with mild detergent.
Scrape out the blood as much as you can from the carpet and then
pour peroxide to the area. Once the peroxide is contacted with the
blood the solution will foam and lift the blood out. Dab the area
dry with a cloth or towel.
4. Club Soda
Using club
soda for beer or wine stains in carpet will help getting out the
stain. Dab the area with club soda with a cloth/towel. If the stain
still remains use a spray bottle mixed with white vinegar and water.
Spray the area with the solution and let it sit for 10 to 15
minutes, then press the area with a towel until the stain is
removed. After the stain is gone rinse the area with warm water and
dry it with towels. Let the towels sit on the area for at least a
day to absorb the dampness.
5. Gum
If sticky gum
somehow lands in your carpet, just freeze it! Get a few ice cubes
and leave them on the gum for at least 30 seconds. By doing this,
this will harden the gum make it solid and you can use a spoon to
lift it up from the carpet. You might need scissors to cut strands
of the carpet away from the gum.
6. Shaving Cream
Shaving cream
is another option to remove stains from your carpet. Put shaving
cream on the stain and let it sit for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes
dab the area down with a dry cloth or towel. Clean up the area with
a spray bottle mixed with water and vinegar then wiped down the
area.
7. Grease Stains
For grease
stains that appear on your carpet use your dishwashing liquid soap!
